Innovative Construction Technologies for Sustainable Construction Academy

Posted by: Stephen George & Partners LLP

Project: SusCon Academy Dartford

Planning permission was achieved in February 2009.

SusCon (Sustainable Construction) Academy will provide a unique opportunity as both a demonstration project for innovative construction methodologies and technologies and a catalyst for development within the Thames Gateway masterplan.

The project is progressing to a commitment to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.

The building combines off-site modular construction methods with locally sourced material selection. The building maximises passive ventilation solutions and natural cooling strategies.

The heating is provided using biofuel and solar thermal water heating, with additional electricity generated using photovoltaic cells. The state-of-the-art building also uses rainwater harvesting to minimise water use.
