Betfred is the world’s largest independent bookmakers and the UK’s biggest independent high street retailer with over 600 shops, 5000 employees and a turnover in excess of £1.5 billion. Its Warrington headquarters is a 60,000 square feet purpose built facility which accommodates its call centre and internet betting operations.

However, the original design had windows only on the outer of the building, so that the lights would have to be on all the time to illuminate the central areas. Solatube® Daylighting Systems were chosen not only to make the building aesthetically pleasing but also to give staff the positive health and productivity benefits that natural light brings and to reduce energy usage.

The ten Solatubes installed in the call centre’s roof transmit light to the middle of the call centre’s rectangular ceiling. Using Solatube® Daylighting Systems rather than traditional lighting or glazing solutions, also means that there are no problems with screen glare for the staff who use the numerous TV and PC screens in the call centre.
