INNOVATIVE BASEMENT WATERPROOFING PROJECT

Newton System 500 Used As The Waterproofing Solution In This High Spec Basement Conversion

History

The owner of this stunning Grade II Listed property in rural Surrey was looking to make use of an existing basement which was unusable due to severe damp problems. The owner consulted his conservation architect and was advised to use a system which was sympathetic to the structure and one that is reversible to comply with Listed Building requirements. After consultation with a number of specialist waterproofing companies the owner commissioned Newton Specialist Basement Contractor Advanced Preservation to design and install the Newton System 500 cavity drain system.

Methodology

Advanced Preservation was tasked to covert the three distinctive basement areas into a high quality cinema room, gymnasium and wine store. This was achieved by mechanically fixing the Newton 508 – 8mm cavity drain membrane to all the retaining walls with the Newton MultiPlug. The MultiPlug was positioned at 400 centres and timber battens were screwed into the plugs to form the frame work for fixing plasterboard as an internal finish. Newton Baseboard was used on this project as a means of moving the water that entered the Newton System out to an open elevation in the structure. This unique ‘hollow skirting board” drainage feature is unique to Newton in the United Kingdom and is an excellent way of draining the cavity drain system where no internal head height can be added or the floor is structural.
