Green Living Walls for Low Light and Dry Environments

Posted by: Mobilane UK Ltd

Parkside Hospital provides patients and staff with a pleasant and relaxing environment and Aspen Healthcare is keen to demonstrate its environmental credentials as Parkside undergoes an £11.5 million expansion programme.

With this in mind, it was decided to augment the site with the addition of two living walls.

The challenge faced was to choose a living wall system which could tolerate a low-light and relatively dry environment. Mobilane advised that a WallPlanter system containing hedera helix woerner ivy would deliver sustainable benefits, including improvement of air quality and ambient temperature, as well as providing an attraction to birds and insects.

Woerner ivy is easy to grow in full sun or shade and is a long-lived ivy which provides evergreen coverage for many years. It is the perfect species for sites which cannot rely on a lot of light and which require a minimum maintenance system.

WallPlanter is Mobilane’s long established living wall system which consists of aluminium planters into which fully matured plants are grown. WallPlanter delivers an extremely robust living wall solution and is featured on Europe’s finest example of a living wall on the harbour front at Monaco.
