Golpla® Ground Reinforcement for New Car Park

Posted by: Hoofmark UK Ltd

Golpla® Ground Reinforcement System

Following the devastating flooding that occurred in the town of Boscastle in 2004, a major flood prevention scheme was instigated by North Cornwall District Council. Part of this involved widening and deepening the River Valency and this, in turn, entailed construction of a new car park on land in the town centre owned by the National Trust.

The Constraints

The National Trust recognised that visitor car parking in a busy tourist town such as Boscastle would, of necessity, need to be robust and hard wearing. The Trust was anxious that, wherever possible, natural materials be introduced and grass cover established.

The Solution: Golpla® Pavers

A number of options were considered before Hoofmark’s (UK) Ltd Golpla® ground reinforcement system was selected by the main contractor, Carillion, and approved by the client, their representatives (Halcrow) and the National Trust.

Working for Carillion, Anzac Construction installed 4,200m² of Golpla® pavers manufactured in recycled plastic, at the client’s request, supplied in the colour black.
