Aralia wins the BALI Landscape Design Excellence Award for the third year running!
In December 2011 Patricia Fox attended the awards at Great Room in Grosvenor House in central London, only to come away with our third consecutive BALI Landscape Design Excellence Award
Our clients John and Anna Maxwell had recently moved into their Grade 2 listed property in London, and decided to put their stamp on the place by having the garden landscaped by Aralia. They mainly wished to use the garden for entertaining and relaxing. They wanted an old traditional looking garden which has a calm, tranquil and ‘country’ feel.
We suggested segregating the garden into 5 ‘rooms’ to add interest and a sense of journey…
- Room 1: Occasional Drinks/ spill out area into garden
- Room 2: Outdoor dining room with overhead pergola to provide privacy, planting and lighting
- Room 3: Paved mid section for BBQ and Water Feature
- Room 4: Lawned ‘chill out area’ for private relaxation
- Room 5: Utility area for shed plus important screening to hide neighbours terrace.
The planting borders includes both structural evergreen hedging, to enhance feeling of room divisions, and for appeal from dining room on the ground floor, interspersed with softer planting to provide seasonal change and
fragrance. Immediate borders were designed as a ‘white garden’ with more colour introduced in the middle sections and lush green planting to the far room.
